REFLECTIVE WRITING #2

Around seven weeks ago, I left my country and came here thinking I knew everything about teaching English to children. Nowadays, when we are reaching the way point of the teacher training course, and I can strongly say I just knew nothing about being a good and competent second language teacher.

First of all, I found it really interesting the way our group was set up at the beginning of the course. I was not aware of the importance of group work for teaching and learning. I recognize now the fact that we all need from others, clarify ideas and remove any type of doubt. We have seen all kinds of activities during this time which will definitely help us keep all our future students interested and motivated about learning English. The warmers and fillers keep learners continuously working and enjoying their classes.

Secondly, I want to add some challenges I have found during the course. It has been a lot of information we have had to process during these days. All the different theories about the learning process, the different intelligences we humans have, methodologies and classroom management, and not forgetting everything related to lesson planning. However, all these this I saw as challenges at the beginning are now turning into inspiration to keep going forward. All the effort I have put into that is worth it, as I feel I have overcome that. Besides, I think I am building my own style of teaching and my own methodologies for the, which gives me some sort of pleasure and pride at the same time. Moreover, I realized I am enjoying the time I spend outside the classroom for learning. My weekly check in is getting better every week and I am achieving the majority of the goals I had previously set up for myself.

In conclusion, I feel I am not the same person who landed here in Canada a couple of weeks ago. I am currently eager to learn as much as possible, and I can promise myself to do my best in order to provide good education to my future students in Panama. That way, they will be able to build a better, well-organized and well-distributed country in a short lapse of time.
